When Joanna was diagnosed with breast cancer on Christmas Day 2025, her world changed in an instant. As a wife, mother of two, and resident of Martha's Vineyard, she faced surgery, daily ferry commutes for radiation treatment, and the emotional and financial challenges that accompanied her diagnosis. Through it all, Joanna found strength in her family, community, and unwavering gratitude for the opportunity to keep moving forward.

At 32 years old, active, healthy, and a new mom, breast cancer was the last thing I expected. In this AAPI Heritage Month blog, I share my personal story while raising awareness about the growing breast cancer risks facing AAPI women and the importance of breaking the silence around early detection and self-advocacy.
